SOFTWARE AND SOFT COSTS
Software financing and leasing
The licence is a third of a software project. The rest is the implementation, the data migration, the training and the servers or workstations it runs on, and a bank will not lend against any of it. American Capital Group finances the whole project, software-only or bundled with hardware, so the system goes live on one monthly payment.
What we finance
New or used, from any vendor, dealer or auction. Named manufacturers are examples of what this covers, not a limit — if what you need is not on this list, ask.
- ERP — NetSuite, SAP Business One, Epicor, Dynamics 365, Acumatica
- EHR and practice management — athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, NextGen
- Dental software — Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental installs
- CAD, CAM and PLM — SolidWorks, Autodesk, Mastercam, PTC
- Manufacturing MES, shop-floor and quality systems
- CRM and Salesforce implementations
- Point-of-sale, restaurant and retail software
- Cybersecurity, backup and disaster recovery platforms
- Perpetual licences, term licences and prepaid subscriptions
- Implementation, configuration and data migration services
- Training, change management and go-live support
- Servers, workstations and networking the software runs on
Why lease it
01
One hundred percent soft-cost deals
Software, services and training have no resale value, which is why banks decline them. We finance software-only projects and projects that are mostly services, sized to the business rather than to the collateral.
02
Go live now, pay as it earns
An ERP or EHR pays for itself in the hours it saves and the claims it does not lose. Financing spreads the project over three to five years so the savings arrive before most of the cost does.
03
Off-the-shelf software is Section 179 property
Purchased off-the-shelf software qualifies for the Section 179 deduction in the year it is placed in service. A $1 buyout lease or equipment finance agreement preserves that, subject to your CPA's advice.

Questions companies ask before financing software
Can software be financed without any hardware?
Yes. American Capital Group finances software-only projects: the licences, the implementation, the data migration and the training, with no hardware on the agreement at all. Projects that bundle servers or workstations with the software are financed the same way on one payment.
Can I finance an ERP or EHR implementation?
Yes. ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP Business One, Epicor and Dynamics 365, and EHR and practice management systems such as athenahealth, eClinicalWorks and NextGen, are financed including the implementation and training services, which are usually the larger part of the project.
How long can a software lease run?
Software is usually financed over two to five years, matched to the licence term or the expected life of the system. Most software projects are approved on an application alone, with no financial statements up to $150,000.
Does software qualify for the Section 179 deduction?
Purchased off-the-shelf software that is placed in service during the tax year qualifies for the Section 179 deduction, and a $1 buyout lease or equipment finance agreement preserves that treatment. Custom development and subscriptions are treated differently, so confirm the project with your CPA.
