Questions reporters and agencies ask before financing equipment
Can I finance a Stenograph Luminex writer?
Yes. American Capital Group finances Stenograph Luminex, ProCAT and other stenographic writers together with the CAT software, realtime laptop and accessories on one lease. Most court reporting equipment purchases are approved on an application alone, with no financial statements up to $150,000.
Can a freelance court reporter lease equipment?
Yes. Freelance reporters, CART providers and captioners are approved as sole-proprietor businesses on personal credit, certification and the equipment being bought. Newly certified reporters are welcome to apply, and the decision normally comes within one business day.
Is court reporting software included in the financing?
Yes. Case CATalyst, Eclipse, Dragon and other software licences are financed as soft costs on the same lease as the writer, and a software-only lease is available for a reporter upgrading the software on a writer already owned.
Can a court or agency finance a digital court recording system?
Yes. For The Record, Liberty, JAVS and other digital court recording and courtroom audio systems are financed for reporting agencies, arbitration services, law firms and private tribunals, with the installation and training included as soft costs.
