AMBULANCES

Ambulance financing and leasing

An ambulance is a truck chassis, a patient module and a full set of medical equipment bought as one unit, and a private service needs it on the road before the transports that pay for it are billed. Financing puts a new or remounted unit in service now and spreads the cost over the years of calls it will run.

What we finance

New or used, from any vendor, dealer or auction. Named manufacturers are examples of what this covers, not a limit — if what you need is not on this list, ask.

  • Type I ambulances — box module on a Ford F-450, F-550 or Ram 4500 and 5500 truck chassis
  • Type II ambulances — Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van conversions
  • Type III ambulances — box module on a Ford E-450 or Chevrolet 4500 cutaway chassis
  • Medium duty ambulances on Freightliner M2 and International MV chassis
  • Builders — Braun, Horton, Demers, AEV, Wheeled Coach, Road Rescue, Medix, Life Line
  • Remounts — an existing patient module refurbished and mounted on a new chassis
  • Critical care, neonatal and bariatric transport units
  • Wheelchair vans and non-emergency medical transport vehicles
  • Power cots and load systems — Stryker Power-PRO and Power-LOAD, Ferno iNX
  • Cardiac monitors, ventilators and chest compression devices — Zoll X Series, LIFEPAK 15, LUCAS
  • Radios, mobile data terminals, lighting and graphics on the same agreement
  • Used and refurbished ambulances from a dealer or another service

Why lease it

01

The unit earns per transport from its first shift

An ambulance is paid by the call and the mile, by insurers, hospitals and facility contracts. A lease with a fixed monthly payment over four to six years sets the cost of the unit against the transports it runs, instead of taking the whole price out of cash before the first patient is moved.

02

Chassis, module and medical equipment on one agreement

The vehicle is only part of putting an ambulance in service. The cot, the load system, the monitor, the radios and the lettering can go on the same agreement, so there is one application and one payment instead of a truck loan and a stack of separate invoices.

03

Deduct the unit the year it goes into service

Ambulances are Section 179 property, and an ambulance used directly in a business is not held to the passenger automobile limits. Buy on a $1 buyout lease or an equipment finance agreement and it can be expensed in the year it goes into service, subject to your own tax position and your CPA's advice.

Questions operators ask before financing an ambulance

Can a private ambulance service finance a new ambulance?

Yes. Ambulance financing from American Capital Group covers Type I, Type II and Type III ambulances from Braun, Horton, Demers, AEV, Wheeled Coach and other builders, remounts, wheelchair vans, power cots and cardiac monitors, new or used, for private ambulance services, non-emergency medical transport companies and hospital-based programs. Smaller transactions are approved on an application alone, with no financial statements up to $150,000, and multi-unit orders are quoted on a short financial package.

How much does it cost to lease an ambulance?

The payment depends on the unit, its age, the term and the end of term option you choose. A used Type II van on a three year lease is a very different agreement from a new Type I on a four wheel drive chassis with a power load system over six years, so send the dealer's quote through the form on this page and we return real numbers, usually the same business day.

Can I finance a used ambulance or a remount?

Yes. Used ambulances from a dealer or another service qualify, subject to age, mileage and condition, and so does a remount, where the builder refurbishes your existing patient module and mounts it on a new chassis. We pay the dealer or the remount center directly once the agreement is signed.

Can a new ambulance or medical transport company finance its first unit?

Yes. A new service with its state license and a facility or hospital contract in hand can finance the first unit against personal credit, industry experience and the contract. We fund start-up operators regularly, and the first payment can be set after the unit is delivered and in service.
