ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT
Engineering equipment financing and leasing
An engineering firm bills by the hour, and the instruments decide how many hours a job takes. A robotic total station, a 3D laser scanner or a survey drone lets a two person crew collect in a morning what used to take a week, and each one costs as much as a truck. Financing puts the instrument on the next project and pays for it out of the fees it earns.
What we finance
New or used, from any vendor, dealer or auction. Named manufacturers are examples of what this covers, not a limit — if what you need is not on this list, ask.
- Robotic total stations — Trimble S Series, Leica TS16, Topcon GT, Sokkia iX
- GNSS receivers and base stations — Trimble R12i, Leica GS18, Topcon HiPer, Emlid
- 3D laser scanners — Leica RTC360 and BLK360, Trimble X9, FARO Focus
- Survey and inspection drones with LiDAR and photogrammetry payloads — DJI Matrice, WingtraOne
- Ground penetrating radar — GSSI, Sensors & Software, Leica DS2000
- Pipe and cable locators — Radiodetection RD8200, Vivax-Metrotech, Subsite
- Wide format plotters and scanners — HP DesignJet, Canon imagePROGRAF, KIP
- CAD and simulation workstations — Dell Precision, HP Z, Lenovo ThinkStation
- CAD, BIM and analysis software — Autodesk, Bentley, SolidWorks, ANSYS licences
- Materials testing and geotechnical lab equipment — compression machines, nuclear density gauges
- Data collectors, digital levels, laser distance meters and machine control kits
- Used and recertified instruments from a dealer
Why lease it
01
The instrument bills on its first project
Scanning, staking and subsurface mapping are billed per day or per deliverable. A lease with a fixed monthly payment over three to five years sets the cost of the instrument against those fees, instead of taking the whole price out of the firm's cash between progress payments.
02
Instrument, software and training on one agreement
A scanner is not useful without the registration software, the controller and a trained operator. Field software, office licences, accessories, a support plan and the dealer's training can go on the same agreement as the instrument, on one dealer's quote or several.
03
Stay current, deduct in year one
Scanners and receivers improve with every generation, and a lease term can be set to end when the next one is worth having. Instruments, plotters, computers and off-the-shelf software are Section 179 property. Buy on a $1 buyout lease or an equipment finance agreement and it can be expensed in the year it goes into service, subject to your own tax position and your CPA's advice.

Questions firms ask before financing engineering equipment
What engineering equipment can be financed?
Engineering equipment financing from American Capital Group covers robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, 3D laser scanners, survey drones, ground penetrating radar, pipe and cable locators, wide format plotters, CAD workstations, materials testing equipment and the software licences that run them, new or used, for civil, structural, geotechnical, mechanical and surveying firms.
Can CAD and BIM software be financed with the hardware?
Yes. Perpetual licences and multi-year subscription terms paid in advance for CAD, BIM, point cloud and analysis software can be included on the same agreement as the workstations, plotters and instruments, along with training and implementation. Send the quotes through the form on this page and we return real numbers, usually the same business day.
Can I finance a used or recertified total station or scanner?
Yes. Used and recertified instruments from a dealer qualify, subject to age and condition, and a current calibration certificate helps. We pay the dealer directly once the agreement is signed, and new and used equipment can be combined on one agreement.
Can a new engineering or surveying firm get equipment financing?
Yes. A licensed engineer or surveyor opening a new firm can finance instruments against personal credit and professional experience. We fund new practices regularly, and the first payment can be set after the equipment is delivered and working on a project.
