CRANES & BOOM TRUCKS

Crane and boom truck financing and leasing

A crane is the machine that turns a subcontract into a contract. The roofer who owns a boom truck sets the trusses, the steel erector who owns a rough terrain crane stops paying the rental yard by the day, and the sign company with a knuckle boom takes the installs it used to turn down. Financing puts the crane on the truck before the next bid goes in.

What we finance

New or used, from any vendor, dealer or auction. Named manufacturers are examples of what this covers, not a limit — if what you need is not on this list, ask.

  • Boom trucks — Manitex, National Crane NBT series, Terex, Elliott, Altec, 15 to 60 ton
  • Rough terrain cranes — Grove GRT, Link-Belt RTC, Tadano GR, 30 to 150 ton
  • Crawler cranes and telescopic crawlers for foundations and steel
  • Knuckle-boom and articulating cranes — Palfinger, Hiab, Fassi, Effer on truck chassis
  • Carry deck and industrial cranes — Broderson, Shuttlelift, for plants and warehouses
  • Mini crawler and spider cranes — Maeda, Jekko, for glazing and interior work
  • Truck-mounted service cranes and mechanics trucks
  • Chassis and bodies for boom truck and knuckle-boom builds
  • Rigging, jibs, man baskets, load-moment systems and telematics
  • Used and rebuilt cranes with current inspection
  • Lowboy and trailer packages to move the crane
  • Fleet additions for crane rental and rigging companies

Why lease it

01

Stop renting by the day

A contractor that rents a boom truck three days a week is paying for one and owning nothing. A lease with a fixed monthly payment is usually less than the rental bill, and at the end of the term the crane is yours or returned, your choice.

02

Match the term to the crane's working life

A crane earns for twenty years and the certification record travels with it. A five to seven year $1 buyout lease or an equipment finance agreement spreads the purchase over the first stretch of that life, and the lifts it bills in that time cover the payment.

03

Deduct the crane the year it is delivered

Cranes, boom trucks and rigging are Section 179 property. Buy on a $1 buyout structure and the whole purchase can be expensed in the year it goes into service, subject to your own tax position and your CPA's advice.

Questions contractors ask before financing a crane

Can I finance a boom truck or a crane for a construction company?

Yes. Crane financing from American Capital Group covers boom trucks, rough terrain cranes, crawler cranes, knuckle-boom cranes, carry deck cranes, mini crawler cranes and service cranes, new or used, for roofing, steel erection, HVAC, sign, glazing, precast and crane rental companies. Most boom trucks are approved on an application alone, with no financial statements up to $150,000, and larger cranes are quoted on a short financial package.

How much does it cost to lease a crane?

The payment depends on the crane, its age, the term and the end of term option you choose. A used 17 ton boom truck on a three year lease is a very different agreement from a new 80 ton rough terrain crane on seven years, so send the dealer's quote through the form on this page and we return real numbers, usually the same business day.

Can I finance a used crane or boom truck?

Yes. Used cranes from a dealer, an auction house, a rental fleet or a private seller qualify, subject to age, condition and a current inspection. A boom truck with a documented service and certification history is often the right buy for a contractor adding its first crane. We pay the seller directly once the crane is inspected and the agreement is signed.

Can I finance a knuckle-boom crane and the truck it goes on together?

Yes. The chassis, the crane, the body and the installation can share one lease, whether the upfitter builds it or you buy the truck and the crane from different sellers. One agreement, one payment and one delivery date for the finished truck.
